University of Osnabrück trains imams

Away with business studies, law or medicine. Now, the Imam-coming academics. The University of Osnabrück represents the winter of 2010/2011 in a nationwide model program for imams in mosques, prayer leaders.
"We hope so, initiate opening processes in the Muslim communities and sustain improvements in the integration of Muslims in Germany," said Lower Saxony Interior Minister Uwe Schünemann (CDU) in Nuremberg. There, he signed a corresponding Memorandum of Understanding with the President of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Albert Schmid.
Imams are prayer leaders, as well as chaplains and counselors in social issues. In the mosques communities comes to them, according to Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior usually a special bridge between community members and social institutions.
"To take full advantage of this feature, you need a comprehensive knowledge of the Imams structures, processes and institutions in Germany," said Schünemann. In addition to the two-semester course in Osnabruck berufsbegleitende would contribute significantly in the future.
Schmid added that the projects would be initiated from Lower Saxony also address the recommendations of the German Islam Conference. Therefore, his house would contribute proportionally to it.
